BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) — The Jefferson County Board has approved a permit application for a wind farm that will straddle the county line with Gage County in southeast Nebraska.
The board approved the Steele Flats Wind Project on Tuesday. The Gage County Planning Commission has recommended that the County Board approve the $138 million project.
Documents filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission say the wind farm would generate nearly 74 megawatts of electricity. It's being developed by NextEra Energy Resources of Juno Beach, Fla.
Thirty-two of the turbines will be in Jefferson County, and 12 will be in Gage County.
