There can’t be a Bellevue University athletic hall of fame without Jerry Mosser.
Those were the sentiments expressed by Athletic Director Ed Lehotak as the program prepares to honor the former basketball coach and athletic director as the first inductee into the school’s hall of fame.
““The Bellevue University athletic program is Jerry Mosser,’’ said Lehotak, who took over for Mosser as BU AD in 2008.
“He built the programs, hired good coaches and made it successful under his watch. I’ve been fortunate to just carry on what he started.”
Mosser will be honored at an April 20 banquet at the Gordon Lozier Center on the BU campus. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the event beginning at 6:30. Anyone interested in attending can register online at www3.bellevue.edu/psoft/bruin/forms/payments/hall_of_fame/reservation.asp. Tickets are $50 per person with part of the proceeds going to the Jerry and Gloria Mosser Endowed Scholarship. Those interested in attending must RSVP by April 12.
Mosser became the university’s AD in 1972 and was the basketball coach for two decades. He also coached baseball during his tenure.
Under his watch, the Bruins added four sports (volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer and softball) along with joining the newly formed Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference in 1994.
His programs often advanced to national tournaments and the Bruin baseball team won the school’s only national title in 1995.
