Nebraska provides more than $4 billion in tax incentives, and it makes for sense lawmakers to have as complete information about them as possible beforehand. Legislative Bill 629, which has won first-round approval at the State Capitol, would require information on the estimated job creation and wages for each new incentive proposal. Good idea.
The city government in Stockton, Calif., has filed for bankruptcy, but even that step may not be enough to reduce the government pension benefits that helped push the government over the financial edge: So says the federal judge overseeing the bankruptcy proceedings. “I don't know whether spiked pensions can be reeled back in,” said U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Christopher Klein.
