What's new: The Omaha City Council unanimously approved a proposal to freeze council members' salaries — and that of the mayor — from 2015 through 2018.
The details: Council members' salaries will increase to $37,378 next year, up from $36,289. The council president is in line to receive $44,853, up from $43,547, and the mayor, $113,680, up from $110,369. But those amounts, set by a previous council, would remain intact through 2018.
What we already knew: Council members and Mayor Jim Suttle say the freeze sets a good example as the city addresses its fiscal challenges.
