The list of candidates to host the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials is down to Omaha, San Antonio and St. Louis now that USA Swimming has eliminated Greensboro, N.C.
According to the Greensboro News & Record, concerns over convenience for swimmers was one of the reasons given to Greensboro organizers. The city was bidding to host the 2016 U.S. Trials in the Greensboro Coliseum while also using its adjoining aquatic center.
“We're disappointed today, but we're not reluctant to pursue a bid in 2020,” Matt Brown, managing director of the Greensboro Coliseum Complex, told the News & Record.
Previously cut from the initial list of six hopefuls were Indianapolis and Jacksonville, Fla.
USA Swimming is expected to announce its 2016 host on April 27. Omaha held the event at the CenturyLink Center in 2008 and 2012.
