EVANSDALE, Iowa — A 24-year-old Iowa man has been given one to two years of probation after pleading guilty to reckless use of fire.
Wayne McCormick was charged with arson after a fire Nov. 19 at the house he was renting in Evansdale. McCormick later pleaded guilty to the lesser charge. On Monday he was given a suspended sentence of a year in jail and the probation.
Authorities said the fire started in an upholstered chair in the house's basement. Damage was estimated at $35,000. — AP
