Lincoln — Not much separated Nebraska and Wisconsin during their weekend series, as the difference in the first two games came down to a big inning for each team heading into Sunday’s rubber match at Bowlin Stadium.
The finale didn’t break from that theme.
This time, it was the No. 18 Huskers with an eight-run third en route to an 11-2 series-clinching, five-inning victory.
The Badgers (29-8, 7-5 Big Ten) had just tied the game 2-2 in the top of the inning before Nebraska (30-9, 8-3) sent 14 batters to the plate, producing six hits and five walks.
Alicia Armstrong led off with a single, then Gabby Banda and Taylor Edwards walked to load the bases. Brooke Thomason delivered a two-run double to right-center on a 1-2 pitch that gave the Huskers a 4-2 lead and chased starter Cassandra Darrah (17-5).
Another walk loaded the bases, and Mattie Fowler drove in two with a single up the middle. A walk to Tatum Edwards loaded the bases — still with no one out — before Courtney Breault recorded an RBI single to right field.
Trailing 7-2 with the bases full, Wisconsin recorded the first out before Armstrong delivered her second hit of the inning — a two-run single that made it 9-2. Following a walk and another out, Thomason lined an RBI single to left field to make it 10-2.
Nebraska capped the scoring on Armstrong’s third RBI of the game in the fourth inning. The freshman from Beatrice finished 3 for 4 with two runs.
Four Huskers drove in more than two runs, as the team racked up eight hits and eight walks. Thomason also drove in three while Tatum Edwards (19-6) didn’t allow an earned run. The junior worked around three hits and three errors in the complete game.
