The Nebraska softball team begins a busy week on Tuesday with a rescheduled doubleheader against Minnesota at 4 p.m. at Bowlin Stadium.
The No. 18 Huskers (30-9) then host Kansas on Wednesday at 6 p.m. to close a six-game homestand. Following the mid-week games, Nebraska travels to Purdue this weekend for a three-game Big Ten series.
The Huskers and Golden Gophers are two of the Big Ten’s top teams. Minnesota is second at 9-3, with NU a half-game back at 8-3.
The teams have played virtually the same Big Ten schedule through the first four weeks. Nebraska has posted 2-1 series victories over Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin, while sweeping a weather-shortened two-game series from Northwestern. Minnesota swept both Iowa and Illinois, won two of its three games against Wisconsin and lost two of three games at Northwestern.
The University of Nebraska at Omaha will be on the road on Tuesday and Wednesday at South Dakota.
But first the Mavs picked up some hardware Monday when Campbell Ditto and Dana Elsasser swept the Summit League player and pitcher of the week awards.
Ditto, a freshman catcher, hit .625 with two home runs, five RBIs, two doubles and three runs scored in the series sweep of IUPUI. Ditto also had a team-best 1.625 slugging percentage and .667 on-base percentage. She also had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage behind the plate for the Mavericks while catching two shutouts.
Elsasser, a junior pitcher, tossed two complete-game shutouts against IUPUI in 4-0 and 3-0 wins. She posted 16 strikeouts, two walks and allowed just seven hits in 14.0 innings pitched. Elsasser leads the Summit League in ERA (1.39), wins (18) and saves (3). She now has 10 shutouts on the year.
