'Co-creation arts' group plans housewarming at new Vinton Street site

The Apollon, a local theater, food and performance group, has a new home in Omaha's burgeoning Vinton Street district.

The Apollon — pronounced “apple-on” — will serve food, performances and art exhibitions in its new space; director Ryan Tewell described them as “creatively staged party entertainments.”

The new location, 1801 Vinton St., will open with a party on May 18 as part of the Vinton Street Creativity Festival. The opening celebration will take place that day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“I'm fairly certain that we made every mistake available to us, but we also became relative experts in this burgeoning field of co-creation arts,” Tewell said. “Those of us who set out on this journey together refused to believe the conventional wisdom that we'd have to leave for one of the coasts in order to do anything great.

“I've always been stubborn, and I wanted to do something great in Omaha.”
