A Johnson County sheriff's deputy was hospitalized Friday after he lost control of his vehicle while pursuing a fugitive, authorities said.
Deputy Andrew Schroeder, 28, was taken by medical helicopter to Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln.
He was listed in fair condition, said Johnson County Attorney Julie D. Smith.
The accident occurred on Highway 41 near Sterling.
Schroeder was responding to a call to assist another deputy who was pursuing a fugitive running from law officers.
He was eastbound on Highway 41 when he lost control of his cruiser and slid into an oncoming semi-trailer truck, Smith said.
Schroeder had to be extricated from the vehicle by rescue workers. The extent of his injuries was not released.
