LINCOLN — The Lincoln Pius X Invite, featuring 16 teams Saturday, was won by Elkhorn South with 31.5 points. Second went to Omaha Skutt Catholic and host Pius X with 28 points each.
The York girls were seventh as they scored 16 points in the day’s action.
The best record on the day was a 4-1 mark at No. 1 singles from senior Liz Harlow who ended with a fifth place finish. She won her opening match over Stephanie Jiminez-Lemus of Lexington 6-1, 6-3, but was defeated in her quarterfinal match by Teresa Kaiser of Skutt Catholic, 6-0 and 6-0.

A couple of fourth places went to Emily Meisinger at No. 2 singles and Hayley Nienhueser and Taylor Peterson at No. 2 doubles. Both posted 2-2 records, but won their opening two matches to make it to the semifinals.
At No. 2 singles, Meisinger opened with wins over Brooke Meusch of Kearney Catholic 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 and then she went on to make two in a row with a 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 win over Norris’ Charlotte Shipper. Losses to Omaha Skutt’s Bianca Lowe, 6-1, 6-1 and Bridget McKeegan of Pius X, 6-3, 6-3 gave Meisinger fourth place.
At No. 2 doubles, Nienhueser and Peterson defeated Hastings duo of Mo Boyd and Taylor Williams, 6-4, 6-1 and then took down Elkhorn South’s Paige Piatkowski and Leah Cates, 6-4, 7-5.
The York No.2 duo ended the day with a semifinal loss to Jamie Healy and Ellie Carmody of Omaha Skutt, 6-0, 6-1 and in the third place match was defeated by Lexington’s Kelby O’Meara and Katelin Schultze, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3) and 6-4.
At the No. 1 doubles position, GICC’s team of Katie Golka and Alex Reike picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Delaney Woods and Morgan Meyer, but the York combo bounced back for an 8-2 win over Wilber-Clatonia’s Savanna Kiesel and Montana Laschanzky.
In their final match, Woods and Meyer lost to Skutt’s Stephanie Kaiser and Caroline, 8-0.
“York finished seventh at the Pius Invite on Saturday. Liz Harlow had a nice day with a 4-1 record. She has been working hard the last couple practices trying to find the rhythm she had at the beginning of the season. It was nice to see her gain some confidence in that regard,” commented York head coach Josh Miller. “Emily (Meisinger) and Hayley Nienhueser and Taylor Peterson finished fourth in their respective divisions. Delaney (Woods) and Morgan (Meyer) continue to close the gap at No.1 doubles. The one thing our team has to work on is our sense of urgency during the match. We could have slid up to fifth place had we played with that mentality.”
The Dukes were scheduled to play at the GICC Invite in Grand Island today, however that meet has been postponed to Monday, April 29.
