COLUMBUS — York’s top stick, Leighton Thomas, shot 45-41 - 86 and tied for 12th at the 10-team Columbus Scotus Golf Invitational.
The meet was the first visit by the Dukes to Quail Run, the course they’ll see again in the B-3 District Tournament.
The Dukes were ninth overall with a team score of 381. The Norfolk Panthers shot 335 for the win.
Kyle Haarman and Jared DeMers, playing third and fourth for York, respectively, both shot 48-50 — 98. The Duke in the No. 2 slot, Creighton Loreman, was a single shot back at 49-50 — 99. Hayden Sandall’s card was 53-49 — 102.
“It was cold and windy, but at least we finally got a meet under our belts,” said Coach Dan Malleck of the tournament, played last Friday.
The Dukes opted out of Saturday’s Aurora Invitational when the opportunity to get a look at Quail Run ahead of the district tournament presented itself.
“It was the first time we’ve played in the Scotus Invite and the boys found Quail Run to be a very challenging course. It has a number of good holes along the river,” said Malleck, adding, “We obviously have a lot of work to do” before the district on Monday, May 13.
