Registration is open for the 2013 Great Park Pursuit, which encourages healthy outdoor lifestyles and increases awareness of recreational opportunities through visits to Nebraska parks.
Individuals or teams may visit 20 participating local, state or federal parks May 1 through Sept. 16. They follow clues at each park to locate a post, where they make a tracing of a nature impression. The impressions are mailed to organizers, reflecting the total number of parks visited. The chance of winning prizes increases as more parks are visited.
Visit negpp.org to register or for additional information.
Participating park areas: Gering, Fort Robinson State Park, Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area (SRA), Enders SRA, Maloney Reservoir SRA, McCook, Broken Bow, Calamus SRA, Cowboy Trail at O’Neill, Lewis and Clark SRA, Aurora, Alexandria, Homestead Trail at Roca, Hickman, Lake Wanahoo SRA, Fremont Lakes SRA, Summit Lake SRA, Kirkman’s Cove, Arbor Lodge State Historical Park and Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge.
Fishing for prizes
Nebraska is one of 22 states where fishing could be a little more exciting this year. It is participating in the Cabela’s Fish for Millions contest.
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission recently tagged many fish in public waters. Anglers who catch those tagged fish from May 4 to July 7 will have a shot at up to $2 million in cash and nearly $275,000 in prizes. Every tagged fish will be a winner.
Anglers must register at cabelas.com/fishformillions to be eligible for cash and prizes. Those who register before April 30 will be provided the list of waters with tagged fish four days before the list is released publicly.
Special Iowa giveaway
Iowa hunters and anglers who purchase one of four new licenses will be automatically entered into a weekly drawing for a $50 gift card. The new promotion, called the Adventure Ready Gift Card Giveaway, kicks off this week with weekly drawings through mid-December.
Weekly winner announcements, along with the next week’s gift card sponsor and complete drawing details can be found at iowadnr.gov/giveaway.
The four qualifying licenses: Bonus line license, outdoor combo license, angler’s special and hunter’s special.
