LINCOLN — Nebraska Wesleyan track and field athletes Taylor Tacha and Johnny Rutford were selected to receive a $7,500 postgraduate scholarship from the NCAA for the winter 2012-13 sports season.
Nebraska Wesleyan now has 45 athletes that have earned NCAA postgraduate scholarships. NWU ranks fifth among all NCAA schools and third among all Division III schools with 25 NCAA postgraduate scholarship recipients since 2001-02.
Tacha, from Bertrand, Neb., has a 3.97 GPA as a health and fitness studies major. Tacha qualified for the NCAA III indoor championships in March in the 60 hurdles, her third trip. She placed second at the GPAC indoor track championships and has earned 20 all-conference awards in her four-year career.
She's third on the NWU all-time charts in both the 60 hurdles indoors and the 100 hurdles outdoors.
Rutford, from Lincoln Southeast, was the GPAC champion in the 5,000 meters and runner-up in the 3,000 meters. In 2012, Rutford was the GPAC champion in the 10,000.
In cross country, he qualified for the NCAA III championships and was an all-region performer.
