North Dakota State handed UNO its first conference losses this season, defeating the Mavericks 8-7 and 15-7 Saturday at the Ballpark at Boys Town.
In game one, Wes Satzinger went 3 for 4 with four RBIs for the Bison. Reliever Parker Trewin (1-2) earned the win, allowing one hit and a walk in two innings.
UNO senior Derek Landis (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs in one-third inning.
Down 8-4 in the bottom of the seventh, the Mavs put together three singles and took advantage of a throwing error and a wild pitch to score three runs. But NDSU reliever Kyle Kingsley forced a flyout and a fielder’s choice to end the threat.
In the nightcap, six Bison had multiple hits, including three apiece for Satzinger, Kyle Kleinendorst and Nick Altavilla. Kleinendorst drove in six runs.
Adam Lambrecht (4-0) earned the win in relief, striking out three in two innings.
Senior Matt Tew (2-5) was tagged with the loss, surrendering five runs on five hits in 3-1/3 innings for UNO (15-18, 9-2 Summit League).
The teams conclude their series with a 1 p.m. game Sunday at the Ballpark at Boys Town.
