Space rock, folk groups, punk trios, bouncy pop, alt rock and more awaits anyone who picks up a ticket to the Maha Music Festival.
The Flaming Lips will headline the festival's lineup, which features a strong group of diverse indie artists, including Matt & Kim, Bob Mould and The Thermals.
The Oklahoma space rock band behind songs including “Do You Realize??” and “The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song” recently released a new album, “The Terror,” which popmatters.com called “a tensed-up, teeth-grinding, inner-looking record.”
The band is also known for its complex stage shows, which have included balloons, puppets and lots of confetti.
Maha will take place Aug. 17 at Stinson Park at Aksarben Village. Tickets to the festival, $45 in advance and $55 the day of show, are on sale now here.
In addition to the Flaming Lips, the main stage lineup also features Matt & Kim, Bob Mould, The Thermals, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, Sons of Fathers and Millions of Boys.
Matt & Kim are a Brooklyn rock-pop duo known for songs such as “Daylight” and “Good Ol' Fashioned Nightmare.” Bob Mould is the former guitarist/vocalist of rock band HŁsker DŁ and the leader of '90s rock group Sugar.
Portland punk band The Thermals recently released its sixth album, “Desperate Ground,” with Saddle Creek Records. Thao & the Get Down Stay Down is a folk rock group based out of San Francisco. Roots rock band Sons of Fathers recently received recognition for its performances at the South by Southwest music festival in the band's native Austin, Texas.
Rounding out the main stage lineup is Omaha punk trio Millions of Boys, which released “Competing For Your Love” last year.
A second stage of local bands, which was announced last week, will feature Digital Leather, Criteria, The Millions, Rock Paper Dynamite and HERS. One more band will be determined by a vote at the Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards showcase on June 7 and 8.
The festival, which hosts a community village featuring local nonprofit groups, began in 2009 and has since hosted artists including Superchunk, The Faint, Spoon, Desaparecidos, Garbage, Guided By Voices and Matisyahu.
