Hapkido USA, a martial arts studio run by Mark Dungan, is moving.
The move is a sign of growth, instructor and owner Dungan said. The studio, now located at the Nebraska Elite Sports and Fitness Complex near Westroads, will open in its new location at 1838 North 144th St., on June 3.
Dungan said he has been teaching jin jung kwan hapkido for 13 years. Jin jung kwan hapkido is a martial art that focuses on real-life self-defense situations. Dungan called it “the gentleman's art” because one can use the system to disable an aggressor with minimal energy.
“If you're in a suit and tie and you don't want to get dirty, hapkido is your martial art,” he said.
Dungan teaches anyone ages 5 and up. He also teaches women's self-defense classes, and the next one will be held May 25.
Correction: Mark Dungan, owner of Hapkido USA, has been teaching hapkido, a martial art, for 13 years. He also teaches women's self-defense classes. An earlier version of this story incorrectly described the business and Dungan's experience.
