The man suspected of shooting a Sioux City police officer has been taken into custody in Texas, police said Saturday.
Jamal Dean, 21, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service after a traffic stop in Riviera, Texas.
Several law enforcement agencies learned Friday that Dean may be in Texas. They believed he was heading to the Mexico border. He was stopped in a Dodge Durango going south on Highway 77.
The hunt for Dean began Monday. He is accused of shooting several rounds from a rifle at Officer Kevin McCormick during a routine traffic stop. McCormick, shot once in the head, is expected to make a full recovery.
The hunt for Dean spread to Omaha, but he wasn’t found during a 90-minute search Thursday night in the area of 25th and Marcy Streets.
The Sioux City Police Department’s Facebook page said Dean was being held on an arrest warrant for attempted murder.
