LINCOLN — A new general manager has been hired to run the Nebraska Educational Telecommunications network.
Mark Leonard, now general manager for Illinois Public Media, will start Aug. 1, according to Ken Bird, chairman of the NET Commission. Leonard replaces Rod Bates, who is retiring after 18 years of running the state's public television and radio network.
Leonard has worked at six public broadcast stations during his 32-year career, including ones in South Dakota, New York and Washington state.
Bates had delayed his retirement from the $184,000-a-year post until June 30 after a private search firm, hired by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, was initially unable to provide enough finalists for the job.
