LINCOLN – The Waverly Vikings hosted their annual invite at the Abbott Tennis Complex after early morning rains forced a short delay.
The York girls came away with a second place finish as they scored 37 points, just five behind invite winner Lincoln Pius X.
Coach Josh Miller was pleased with what he saw overall.
“We had a solid day with three of our four teams playing for first place. Taylor (Peterson) and Hayley (Nienhueser) came through in a big way with their championship at No. 2 doubles. It was nice to see these two improve in each match as the day progressed,” commented York head coach Miller. “Emily (Meisinger) had another top two finish.
She did a nice job "amping" up her serve to win some free points. Delaney (Woods) and Morgan (Meyer) learned a valuable lesson in their championship match and I think it will help refocus them for next week. Liz (Harlow) avenged a loss she had on Monday over Columbus in her best match of the day.”
York scored eight points at No. 1 singles behind Harlow, seven points at No. 2 singles with Meisinger in that spot added eight more pints at No. 2 doubles where Nienhueser and Peterson topped the field.
At No. 1 doubles the team of Meyer and Woods finished with 14 points.
The Dukes concluded their regular season on Thursday and will see action next Thursday as they open Class B State Tournament action in Lincoln.
Team Scoring - Pius X 42, York 37, Elkhorn 32, Norris 29, Columbus 24, Waverly 24, Beatrice 16, Blair 12.
