Paramount has slated Omaha director Alexander Payne's movie “Nebraska” for a limited American release Nov. 22, opening wider in the following weeks. That puts the movie's opening in the heart of Academy Award season.
Payne's last four movies all have earned Oscar nominations.
"Nebraska," starring Bruce Dern and Will Forte in a father-son road-trip story, was filmed mostly in the Norfolk area last October and November. It will premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, which opens Wednesday and runs through May 24.
No word yet on the exact date “Nebraska” will open in Omaha. Payne's last movie, "The Descendants," had an early opening at Film Streams, Omaha's arthouse nonprofit theater. Payne serves on the Film Streams board.
