Anna Lundberg was a driven student and musical performer, her father said Sunday.
“If she wanted to succeed in something, she would work very hard,” Scott Lundberg said.
Anna, 15, died Friday at Creighton University Medical Center, where she was taken in critical condition after a May 6 car accident at 162nd Street and West Dodge Road.
A freshman at Millard West High School and a member of its choir and show choir, Anna was always singing, said two of her friends, Natalie Matuella and Emily Bremers.
“She'd sing whenever,” Emily said. “Even when we were walking in the hallways.”
Anna was a passenger last Monday night in her mother's car when it stopped or nearly stopped in the far right lane, its hazard lights blinking. It was hit from behind by a Chevy Avalanche.
Her mother, Yesha Lundberg, 44, and the Avalanche's driver and passenger were injured.
Scott Lundberg said his daughter started dance lessons at age 3. She took pointe and ballet classes at the Jewish Community Center, he said.
“She developed into a beautiful dancer,” Lundberg said. “She had a knack for that.”
Anna also played the piano, taking lessons from her father beginning at age 4.
Anna could always be found with a group of friends, Natalie and Emily said.
“She was very easy to be around and well-liked,” Natalie said.
Lundberg said Anna cultivated friendships in all the groups and organizations to which she belonged.
“She developed friends easily,” he said. “She was very outgoing.”
Anna belonged to the youth group at Westside Church and took a mission trip last summer, her father said. She was open about her faith and didn't hesitate to talk about it with her friends, family or teachers, he said.
Emily said Anna “really cared and prayed a lot. She was a good Christian.”
Classmates and friends are all trying to deal with Anna's death, Emily and Natalie said.
“I feel like everyone hurts, even if they didn't know her, because she was so nice to everyone,” Emily said. “It's really sad, but I have a closer relationship with God because of what happened.”
Besides her parents, Anna's survivors include her brother, Andrew, and her grandparents, Duane and Marian Lundberg and Yanfu Wang.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the John A. Gentleman Chapel, 14151 Pacific St. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Westside Church, 15050 West Dodge Road.
