Eichorst has 'no agenda' during meetings

CHICAGO — In a word, uneventful.

That's how Nebraska Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst portrayed the Big Ten meetings Tuesday regarding any Husker-centric issues.

“I've been around these meetings before,'' said Eichorst, previously the deputy A.D. at Wisconsin, who is five months on the job at NU. “I'm reuniting with some folks and trying to build some relationships. And there are a lot of new faces in the room, too.

“If there is something I need to stress on behalf of Nebraska, I'm more than willing to do that. But I have no agenda here.''

The Nebraska men's basketball schedule for the coming season included the puzzling twist that the Huskers will play the three closest schools geographically (Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin) only once instead of twice.

“I don't know whether that's an anomaly or not,'' Eichorst said. “You hope you wouldn't see that too much.''

Future Big Ten bowl agreements were a prominent discussion topic, and Eichorst said he liked what he heard.

“The notion of trying to create a menu of games with more diversity in destinations and opponents, and possibly not have schools in the same region in multiple years is good,'' he said. “I'm pleased with what we're being told to this point.''

The Big Ten football schedule for 2014 and 2015 should be ready in a few days, Eichorst said. “We're just finishing up some details.''

Husker turnovers: A slippery slope
Bo Pelini has coached 68 games at Nebraska. When NUís turnover margin is positive or even, the Huskers are 35-2. When they lose the turnover battle, theyíre 13-18. Why hasnít Nebraska joined the nationís elite? More than anything, itís turnovers.
