LINCOLN — A public celebration marking the 20th anniversary of the commissioning of the USS Nebraska ballistic missile submarine is planned for June 15 at the Champions Club.
Guests will include members of the current crews, the first commanding officer and other commanders.
Events include a reception at 3 p.m., opening ceremonies at 4 p.m. and a dinner buffet. A program follows at 6:30 p.m. The event is open to the public. The $30 admission includes dinner and a commemorative champagne flute. An anniversary coin and ball caps, T-shirts and other items from the submarine will be sold.

The event is hosted by the Big Red Sub Club. The club sponsors trips for crew members to Nebraska to attend Nebraskaland Days in North Platte, University of Nebraska football games and the College World Series.
Dale Anderson and Randy Boldt of Omaha are co-chairmen of the club. Ron Books of North Platte and Allen Beermann of Lincoln are organizing the celebration.
The vessel's keel was laid in 1987. The nuclear-powered submarine was christened in 1992 and commissioned July 10, 1993. It completed its first deterrent patrol in August 1994. The boat sails out of Kitsap Naval Submarine Base near Bangor, Wash.
