Bail was set at $50,000 Friday for an Omaha father accused of ignoring his adolescent son’s sexual abuse of a 6-year-old girl.
Iguan Rodgers, 41, is charged with felony child abuse. He must post 10 percent, or $5,000, to be released from the Douglas County Correctional Center. He turned himself in Thursday night.
His wife, Yolanda Rodgers, 36, was arrested earlier this month and remains in jail on a felony child abuse charge. Her bail also is $50,000.
Prosecutors said Iguan Rodgers was aware that his 12-year-old son for months had been sexually abusing the girl, who stayed at the family’s home on weekends for respite care.
The girl told Omaha investigators that she went to Iguan Rodgers and his wife about the abuse. She said that Iguan Rodgers “whooped” his son, but the abuse continued.
Rodgers at some point was overheard saying he couldn’t help his son, prosecutors allege. This refusal to address and stop the abuse led to the continued victimization of the girl.
The Rodgerses’ son is in the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center.
