An infant was critically injured Friday when the car she was riding in was struck from behind at 50th and K Streets.
Omaha police said the 3-month-old girl suffered a life-threatening head injury.
The girl’s mother, Aleyda Mena-Gonzalez, 31, was stopped in a northbound lane on 50th Street about 1:15 p.m. She had her turn signal on and was waiting to turn left into the Kmart parking lot, said Sgt. Joe Collins.
Mena-Gonzalez’s Ford Taurus was hit from behind by a Freightliner truck driven by Dean Howell, 55, of Omaha.
The infant was in a rear-facing car seat. Maria N. Cuevas, 51, was in the Taurus’ front seat and suffered shoulder and arm injuries.
Howell, who had turned onto 50th Street from westbound L Street, told police he did not see the Taurus, Collins said.
Cuevas and the infant were taken to the Nebraska Medical Center. So was Howell, who complained of chest pain.
