COUNCIL BLUFFS — Council Bluffs residents may see an increase in their trash collection fees.
The City Council this evening will hold the first reading of an ordinance calling for a $2 increase per month on trash services provided by Red River Waste Solutions.
“Our last increase was five years ago,” said Public Health Director Donn Dierks.
If approved by the council, the increase would take effect July 1, and city residents would see their total annual trash bill rise to $216 from the current $192. Residents who make less than $13,690 a year would see a $1 monthly increase, bringing their annual total bill to $108 from $96.
The increase is necessary because of rising operating costs by Red River as it begins a new five-year extended contract on July 1, Dierks said.
