The Southern Sudan Community Association will have an open house Wednesday at the office, 3610 Dodge St., beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Learn about the programs offered by the organization and meet the staff and SSCA members. Visitors also can bring gently used household and furniture items for the “Stuff Our Truck” event. The items will be given to new arrivals for their homes.
App will announce tornado warnings
Nebraska and Iowa residents can be ready for severe weather with the help of your mobile device.
The American Red Cross Tornado App is available in English and Spanish and can be used with the iPhone, iPad, and Android smartphones and tablets.
A high-pitched siren goes off and a “tornado warning” alert signals when the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has issued a tornado warning. An “all clear” alert lets users know the tornado warning has expired or has been canceled.
Other features on the app include NOAA severe thunderstorm and flood watches and warnings; weather maps and information provided by Weather Underground; one-touch “I’m safe” messaging for users to send to family and friends via social media outlets; locations of Red Cross shelters; and Toolkit with flashlight, strobe light and audible alarm.
The Tornado App is available here.
