Here’s a primer on the Omaha Gives! charitable challenge, a 24-hour online fundraiser coordinated by the Omaha Community Foundation. Local nonprofits, and their social media channels, will buzz all day Wednesday as they compete for donations.
How will it work?
Starting at midnight tonight, donors can visit OmahaGives24.org and contribute $10 or more to their favorite organizations. A leader board will display real-time results throughout the day, and contributors will be encouraged to spread the word on Facebook and Twitter (#OmahaGives24).
More than 300 area nonprofit groups — including The World-Herald’s Goodfellows Charities — will be raising funds and competing for additional prizes.
Various nonprofits will celebrate the day with events around town. Learn more at OmahaGives24.org.
How long does it last?
One day. You have to donate by midnight Wednesday.
In addition to donations collected online, Omaha Gives! will award $500,000 in matching funds and another $65,000 in prizes to the participating nonprofits. Those prizes will include a $1,000 added to a random donation each hour and $10,000 bonuses to the groups that draw the greatest number of donors.
