As The World-Herald's Tom Shatel recently noted, it's striking to see the differences in downtown Lincoln as the new Pinnacle Bank Arena rounds into form. The rebirth and reinvigoration of the capital city's Haymarket area is reminiscent of what Omaha enjoyed as the now-CenturyLink Center opened in 2003. New businesses, new restaurants, new residential growth and reinvestment. The drive into Lincoln on Interstate 180 pulls your eyes the same way a drive along Abbott Drive's string of pearls does in Omaha. Lincoln even has a big ballpark within walking distance of the arena. When it comes to the energizing value of arenas in Nebraska's largest cities, the answer seems clear: Let's play two.
