Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings have bowed out of Monday’s performance in Council Bluffs.

The renowned soul/funk group was set to perform Monday in a Playing With Fire concert at River’s Edge Park in Council Bluffs as a part of Loessfest, a grand opening series of events at the park.

“Sharon and the Dap-Kings are all tremendously disappointed they are unable to appear and trust fans will understand. They hope to see them at another show soon,” read a press release.

The release cited “an urgent family matter” for the cancellation.

“Our best wishes go out to Sharon and the Dap-Kings,” said Jeff Davis, Playing With Fire’s organizer.

Vintage Trouble, a rock and soul group, will now headline the show. Lincoln band Josh Hoyer & the Shadowboxers have been added to fill out the lineup.

The schedule is now Mojo Bag at 4 p.m., Satchel Grande at 5:10 p.m., Josh Hoyer & the Shadowboxers at 6:45 p.m. and Vintage Trouble at 8:30 p.m.

It’s been a long time since Johnny Carson slept in the tiny upstairs room in the modest little house at 306 S. 13th St. in Norfolk.
Carson was born in Iowa and moved to Norfolk with his family in the 1930s. They lived in at least one other house in Norfolk before moving into to the white, wood-frame structure on 13th Street.
