A man surrendered to police Friday after he fired his weapon at officers, police said.
Tyrone Wells, 21, was arrested about 2:30 a.m. near 28th Street and Ellison Avenue.
No injuries were reported.
Officers went to the neighborhood in response to a ShotSpotter report that rounds had been fired, said Officer James Shade, a police spokesman. They were told en route that someone reported a man firing a gun at two women. When officers arrived, they saw a man sitting on the front steps of Miller Park Elementary School. The man began firing at officers, police said.
Officers avoided being hit and established a position to deal with the man, who then surrendered. The officers apparently did not fire their weapons.
Wells was arrested on suspicion of two counts of attempted assault of a police officer, possession of a stolen firearm, felon in possession of a weapon and other allegations.
