Chef Matthew Taylor, formerly of the Lied Lodge at Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska City, will be the head chef at the new Benson Brewery.
Ryan Miller, Benson Brewery co-owner, said Taylor fits the restaurant's style.
“We put a lot of thought into the design of the building and the beer. Now Matt is doing the same thing with the food,” he said. “It's bar food taken to a whole new level.”
The menu, Taylor said, will use local ingredients when possible and will feature simple, hearty, gastropub-style food.
Benson Brewery, 6059 Maple St., is scheduled to open this summer.

Pinot, Pigs, Poets event is June 6
I'll be on the judging panel at the fourth annual Pinot, Pigs and Poets event, a food- and wine-themed benefit at Happy Hollow Club that raises money for Completely Kids. The June 6 event offers more than 30 pinot noir wines from 30 wineries, savory pork dishes from some of the city's best chefs, live slam poetry and vintner and chef competitions.
Participating restaurants include the Boiler Room, the Grey Plume, Happy Hollow Club, J. Coco, Le Voltaire, Lot 2 Restaurant and Wine Bar, Mahogany Prime Steakhouse, M's Pub, Ryan's Bistro, Stokes Grill and Bar and Sullivan's Steakhouse. Poets from the Nebraska Writers Collective will perform.
Before the event, our judging panel will blind-taste each wine for the vintner competition and the winners will be announced during the evening.
The Nebraska Pork Producers Association is sponsoring the chefs competition, new this year. The winning chef will get a trip to the 2014 Pork Summit in St. Helena, Calif.
The tasting begins at 6 p.m. for patron reservations and at 7 for regular reservations.
The money raised at the annual event supports the Completely Kids Weekend Food Program, which provides backpacks filled with healthy, child-friendly food to take home every Friday.
