How terrific it is to read this reporting from World-Herald staff writer Cindy Gonzalez: “Breaking a lull of about six years, Omaha-area developers are starting to pile on the requests to create subdivisions upon which will sprout new houses.” That’s a welcome and important step forward for the metro’s economy as, in the words of a local developer, we see an “end to a six-year drought.”
Mexico’s top blogger about that nation’s drug wars has fled the country. Now in Spain, the anonymous journalist who writes the BlogDelNarco — which is widely read in Mexico, including by government and police officials — said her partner called her with a one-word message, “Run.” In 2011, ABC news reports, three contributors to the blog were killed. It’s another sign of the brutality and corruption from the drug cartels Mexico is battling.
It really isn’t a laughing matter: While on vacation in Egypt, a 15-year-old Chinese boy put graffiti (including his name) on an ancient hieroglyphic. The story of his action has gone viral in China, and the boy’s mother says he’s overcome with shame. It’s tough on a teenager when his foolish action gets a country of a billion people mad at him.
