Participants and attendees at the Omaha Baseball Youth Series got quite the surprise Wednesday when more than 1,000 packages of Jack Link's Jerky attached to mini-parachutes floated down from the sky.
The jerky shower was in honor of Jack Link's Jerky Day in the City of Bellevue, which Mayor Rita Sanders proclaimed to be June 12. The Bellevue holiday coincided with National Jerky Day and honored the history and nutritional benefits of jerky.
It also commemorated the Wisconsin-based Jack Link's Beef Jerky acquiring Bellevue's Skylark Meats packaged meat snack products manufacturing facility in the fall of 2012. Sanders said the company's presence has introduced new jobs, generated additional tax revenue and fostered continued economic growth throughout the area.
Jack Link's called the jerky shower “Operation Sky Meat” and dropped the stuff from a helicopter. Kevin Papacek, the company's director of marketing, said the company is never short on ideas and “this one quickly rose to the top.”
