Metropolitan Utilities District crews and firefighters responded to a natural gas leak in north Omaha on Thursday morning.
The leak near Florence Boulevard and Sprague Street occurred about 11:30 a.m. It may have been caused after a construction crew in the area struck a gas line.
MUD crews worked to shut off the leak and repair the line.
Authorities evacuated a few homes to the north and south of the leak at 4125 N. 18th St.
Later, MUD said a crew shut off the gas at the main and was ventilating a vacant home on North 18th Street.
Residents of the eight to 10 nearby houses that were evacuated were expected to return to their homes by 1 p.m.
