Creighton’s Jake Peter has been invited to try out for the U.S. national baseball team.
Peter, who just completed his sophomore season, will join several other collegiate players on Thursday in Cary, N.C., with the final 24-man roster to be set prior to the team’s departure for Japan on July 3.
Peter led Creighton in average (.350), hits (71) and RBIs (35) in 2013. He also served as the team’s closer, collecting six saves and two wins in 14 appearances.
Creighton coach Ed Servais is serving as an assistant coach for the national team.
Peter is the third current Bluejay asked to work out with the U.S. national team in his respective sport. Basketball All-America Doug McDermott will try out for Team USA prior to the World University Games, and soccer standout Eric Miller earned a sport on the U.S. U-20 World Cup roster.
