A helicopter flight crew from the Nebraska Army National Guard will assist in fighting wildfires near Colorado Springs, Colo.
The Nebraska Emergency Management Agency received a request for assistance from the State of Colorado.
Nebraska will send one UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter equipped with a “Bambi Bucket,” which is a specialized bucket suspended from a cable that delivers water for aerial firefighting.
A four-person flight crew and one helicopter crew chief will go to Colorado.
“Nebraska is always happy to assist other states in a time of an emergency,” said Earl Imler, response and recovery section manager.
The soldiers are members of the Lincoln-based Company C, 2-135th General Support Aviation Battalion. They are scheduled to arrive in Denver at noon Mountain time on Saturday.
