Omaha chef Joel Mahr is in the running for a national “Best Neighborhood Chef” contest.
Mahr, the chef at Lot 2 in Benson, is part of Cooking Light Magazine's third-annual Trailblazing Chef Awards. The contest lets consumers vote for one of 10 regional finalists selected by the magazine's editors. Each of the finalists runs a restaurant that the magazine describes as “truly in and of their neighborhoods.”
“As food becomes so important in American culture and as restaurants push into neighborhoods that in some cases have been deprived of good dining for a long time the neighborhood restaurant becomes even more important than it always has been,” Cooking Light Editor Scott Mowbray said in a press release.
The winning chef will be featured in the November issue of the magazine. Omahans can place their vote at Facebook.com/CookingLight. Voting continues through July 1.
