DES MOINES — Three teams from Nebraska reached the finals at the US Youth Soccer Region II tournament.
The LSC Elite Girls Academy U-19 Bravo, NFC 93/94 Blue and Phoenix Juventus boys advanced to Wednesday's finals.
Bravo — which went 2-0-1 in pool play, including two shutouts — beat the NSA Inferno of Illinois 1-0 in the semifinals Tuesday. Emily Nulty scored in the second half on an assist by Ava Ambrose.
“We managed to play well,” coach Marcus Kelcher said. “We haven't given up many goals.”
Bravo will play the Kolping Kicks of Missouri at 10 a.m. Wednesday to advance to nationals.
Daulton Keiser and Jacob Stephens scored as NFC beat EIU Blue of Iowa 2-1. The club advanced to play the Chicago Fire Academy for a second time at 8 a.m. in the under-19 boys final.
“We showed a lot of character in this time of the tournament,” NFC coach Paul Harvey said. “It was a battle of wills as much as anything else.”
The Phoenix Juventus defeated Carmel United 99 Elite of Indiana 3-1 in the under-14 semifinals to set up a 10 a.m. final Wednesday against Michigan Wolves 99.
Diego Gutierrez-Najar scored two goals and Nolan Dillon had one in the second half for the Juventus, a squad that traveled extensively and played top teams to get ready for the State Cup and regionals.
“The boys have worked so hard all year. They just kept focused and have been playing great,” coach Paul Elam said. “It's an amazing thing.”
The LSC Elite Girls Academy under-13 team lost 5-0 to the Michigan Hawks in the semifinals.
