An early morning shooting near 42nd and F Streets sent two people to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Omaha police identified the victims as Stevie Goin, 22, and Zach Ricard, 21. Both remained in critical condition Monday afternoon at the Nebraska Medical Center.
Douglas County emergency 911 reports indicated that a man suffered at least four gunshot wounds one to the side of his chest and three to his back and a woman suffered at least one gunshot wound to her left shoulder at the Village Gate apartments, which are northeast of South 42nd and F Streets.
Neighbors said they heard four to five shots about 5 a.m. just to the north of the apartments, then screaming and moaning.
Ronnie Serrano, 27, said he initially thought the gunfire was fireworks. Then, he said, he heard car tries screeching.
He said the apartment complex has had problems in the past.
About 6:45 a.m., two Omaha police officers expanded the crime scene to the north of the apartments, taping off about a block-long section of D Street. Police said the investigation was continuing.
