LINCOLN — On a recommendation from Oklahoma basketball coach Lon Kruger, Nebraska’s Tim Miles has hired former Sooner graduate assistant Teddy Owens as an administrative coordinator.
Kruger, a former star player at Kansas State and a Final Four head coach at Florida, is one of Miles’ coaching friends.
“Lon has been very good to me,” Miles said Tuesday. “He recommended I look at Teddy, and the more I got to know him, the more I liked him.”
Owens has his own basketball pedigree. His father, Ted, played basketball at Oklahoma and was a Final Four coach at Kansas.
Teddy Owens, 31, has also been a high school coach in Tulsa, leading Lincoln Christian High to the Class 2A state tourney in back-to-back seasons. At Nebraska, he’ll have a variety of work.
“It’s a hybrid position,” Miles said. “There will be some administrative work, some operations, some on-campus recruiting and some team outreach.”
