A man was fatally shot Sunday afternoon inside a red Jeep Cherokee parked outside a beauty supply store near 60th Street and Ames Avenue.
Police identified the victim as Darnell P. Haynes, 29.
Paramedics tried unsuccessfully to revive Haynes. They pronounced him dead at the scene.
Rescue workers were called to Mid-K Beauty Supply, near the southeast corner of the intersection, at 3:20 p.m. and found Haynes suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, said Officer James Shade, a police spokesman.
Police believe the assailant ran from the parking lot.
Employees and customers had been inside the store when the shooting occurred, and plenty of motorists would have been at the busy intersection.
Shade said he hopes witnesses will come forward with information that could lead to an arrest. He asked them to call the police homicide unit at 402-444-5656 or the anonymous Crime Stoppers line at 402-444-STOP (7867).
