These last seven days have been like a camp rolling on two wheels.
Just like camping, we packed, double-checked our bags and made sure our favorite snacks and beverages were ready. The days began early and ended late.
After disabling our tent, we slathered on the sunscreen and got on our bikes. We rode for miles. Our trails were the back roads of Iowa.
When we were hungry, we ate watermelon, pork chops or whatever looked enticing. We played on slip and slides and jumped in farm ponds.
At night, we reminisced about the day while sitting around our campsite. Fireflies flickered and crickets sounded.
Storms rolled through, but that was expected. It's summer in Iowa after all.
Today and tomorrow we will greet our families with hugs and smiles. We will tell them about the never-ending hills. We will talk about the friends we made, the food we ate and the adventures we had.
Thank you RAGBRAI for the memories. Thank you for giving us a chance to enjoy our summer.
