Ditch the dri-fit and pricey workout attire. All you need is your PJs for the inaugural Pajama Dash 5K on Sunday.
Organizers invite people to run 3.1 miles in their sleepwear at Werner Park in Papillion. The after-party – or pajama party – will feature a DJ, free photo booth for souvenir pictures and beer. Those wearing their PJs will receive their first drink free.
“There's a lot of these adult runs and 5Ks so we wanted to think of a theme that no one had ever done before,” said race director Jeff Muhlecke, who also organizes the Muddy Heroes Run, a kids event in Greenwood, Neb.
The Pajama Dash was originally scheduled for Saturday night, but was moved to Sunday at 2 p.m. due to a scheduling conflict at the facility.
A portion of the event's proceeds will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association, a charity selected by the Papillion Fire Department. Papillion firefighters will participate and volunteer during the 5K.
Muhlecke intends for the race to be an annual event and hopes to expand it to other cities, though those arrangements are still in the works.
Roughly 200 people are signed up. Online registration is closed, but people can sign up on race day at Werner Park for $55. For more information, click here.
