We’ve got your hotspot — and it’s free. Yes, wireless access to the Internet is increasingly available in the metro area at restaurants, coffeehouses, shops and hotels, but those locations sometimes require a purchase or have other limitations.
Following is a sampling of wi-fi that is available free to the public, without a password required.
Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce courtyard: 13th and Howard Streets; also an LED video screen, plus tables and chairs.
Omaha Visitors Center: 1001 Farnam St. The center offers free wi-fi at its downtown location and maintains a list of other Omaha providers at www.visitomaha.com/about-omaha/free-wifi-locations/.
Douglas County Courthouse: 1701 Farnam St. Free wi-fi may be accessed near the first-floor food area.
Joslyn Art Museum: 2200 Dodge St. The museum now has free admission, which includes free wi-fi.
Omaha public libraries: 215 S. 15th St. (W. Dale Clark Library) and all 11 branches; www.omahalibrary.org.
Midtown Crossing at Turner Park: 31st Avenue and Dodge Street; free wi-fi is available throughout the seven-acre park.
University of Nebraska at Omaha: 6001 Dodge St. Free wi-fi available in campus buildings; users without a UNO password are allowed access via a guest account.
Bennington: Public library, 15505 Warehouse St.
Mead: Public library, 316 S. Vine St.
Ralston: Baright Public Library, 5555 S. 77th St.
Waterloo: Robinson Public Library, 23704 Cedar Drive.
Yutan: Public library, 502 Third St.
Sarpy County Courthouse: 1210 Golden Gate Drive, Papillion.
Bellevue: Public library, 1003 Lincoln Road; and Bellevue University, 1000 Galvin Road South.
Gretna: Public library, 736 South St.
La Vista: Public library, 9110 Giles Road.
Papillion: Sump Memorial Library, 222 N. Jefferson St.
Springfield: Public library, 665 Main St.
Council Bluffs: Free wi-fi is available in most of the downtown area (including City Hall, the county courthouse and the public library), as well as the 100 Broadway District, River’s Edge Park, Mid-America Center and the Recreation Area.
Avoca: Public library, 213 N. Elm St.
Carter Lake: Owen Public Library, 1120 Willow Drive.
