Metropolitan Utilities District crews have been installing about 600 feet of new water main in the area of 85th and Cass Streets, MUD officials said Tuesday.
MUD said it is anticipating that it will take about three weeks for the project involving installation, testing and street work to be completed. Traffic is restricted to head-to-head lanes., MUD said.
A water main broke in the area about two weeks ago.
Elsewhere in Omaha, MUD crews completed repairs last week on a broken water main at 73rd and Blondo Streets and service was restored to about 40 customers.
The site has been turned over to city crews for street repairs. Blondo Street remains closed from 72nd to 75th Streets.
The 12-inch water main broke last week.
Due to extensive street damage, city engineers say that it may be late this week at the earliest before one lane will open in each direction.
