FARGO, N.D. — Jake Meyers and Devin Stueck led the way Friday as the team from Omaha Westside staved off elimination at the American Legion Central Plains Regional.
KB Building Services (Westside) blasted North Dakota champion West Fargo 12-1 to remain alive in the double-elimination tournament. KB (42-12) advances to play in a 4 p.m. game Saturday while West Fargo exits the tournament after its second consecutive loss against Nebraska competition.
PI Midwest (Omaha Creighton Prep) defeated West Fargo 15-4 in Thursday’s first round.
Meyers allowed three hits through eight innings and struck out six while Stueck had five RBIs — three coming on a bases-clearing double in the ninth. Stueck also drove in the first two runs of the game with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.
KB scored a run in each of the first three innings and then added two in the sixth to grab a 5-1 advantage. The team from Westside broke the game open with a four-run eighth, highlighted by Drew Fitzmorris’ three-run double.
Stueck’s three-run double in the top of the ninth padded KB’s lead, and Brock Nemecek came on to pitch the bottom of the inning in relief of Meyers.
“We got off to a good start today and that really helped us,’’ KB coach Bob Greco said. “We played a much better game than we did on Thursday.’’
Mike Waldron added two RBIs for KB while Meyers scored three runs.
