A hungry Omaha cat may be on his way to Internet super-stardom.
Omaha’s very own Simon, owned by Jennifer Wagner, has been chosen out of thousands of video submissions as a semi-finalist for “The Friskies,” an award show for best Internet cat videos hosted by Purina Friskies cat food.
In the video, Simon contorts himself to squeeze through a baby gate and get at his dinner. You can vote for him here.
Wagner was unavailable to talk about her cat as of Thursday afternoon.
Simon was a stray when Wagner found the then-2-year-old cat, but he instantly became a member of the family, Friskies said. It was later found that he suffers from intestinal cancer and he is currently undergoing oral chemotherapy. Despite his trials, Simon remains one of the chattiest and hungriest cats Wagner has had.
If Simon gets enough votes, he could qualify as a finalist for the awards, with the chance to take home a gold-plated Friskies Catuette trophy, $5,000 and the title for Best Movie of 2013 at The Friskies, which will be broadcast online at TheFriskies.com Oct. 15. The show will be hosted by comedian and cat owner Michael Ian Black.
