Mutual of Omaha will hold its fourth annual "month of caring" starting this week, with more than 700 employees volunteering with 37 nonprofit organizations in the Omaha area.
Employees can take four hours of paid time during a workday to volunteer. Employees and agents outside Omaha also can coordinate volunteer work with nonprofit groups in their areas.
Among activities planned: Wednesday, about 20 volunteers sort and pack food products for Food Bank of the Heartland; Sept. 12, about 100 volunteers prepare planting beds for the fall and do other work at Lauritzen Gardens; Sept. 26-27, about 30 volunteers each day help with the Susan G. Komen Nebraska Race for the Cure.
Mutual said more than 4,000 employees volunteered during the three previous annual events.
